The system for printing PINs on envelopes is one of SecureCom’s oldest and most sold systems.
All the leading Swedish banks are using PIN-printing systems from SecureCom. Also a number of
niche-banks and petrol companies, in Sweden and abroad, are using our system.
The printing system is developed in Windows environment and recently, the system has gone through an almost entire revision to be even better. The system fulfils the requirements for creating and handling PIN, stated in ISO 9564. For the cryptographic operations, our own developed secure device SA8 is used. The authorization system in SA8 requires that two operators log on in order to start the production. (More information about SA8). We adapt the system entirely to the needs and requirements of the customer. The formats of the order files and possible result files, the method for calculating PIN and possible other security values (CVV, RV etc.) are just a few of the adaptations we use to do for the customer. A journal is created each time an operation is accomplished that requires the operators to log on. The production journal contains information about the number of PINs that have been produced, which operators that have been responsible for the production and the PIN counter in SA8. Most of the printing systems today use laser printers for printing the envelopes, but there are still systems working with matrix or even line printers. The systems for laser printers include a tool for designing the envelope layouts. With this tool, the customer has the ability to enter texts, choose which font and font size to use, decide where on the envelope the texts shall be printed and so on. It is also possible to print pictures on the envelope. If the printer supports double sided printing, the designing tool also has that opportunity. If the envelopes shall be sent as registered letters, the program automatically creates a list of all the letters, which is required by the Post Office.
